State, Local Police Search for Missing Person
Helicopter assisted in canvassing field near Turtleback Road for 40 minutes Thursday night.
Authorities were searching for a missing person in an open field on Turtleback Road between Beacon Hill and West Valley Brook roads in the Califon section of the township Thursday night.
A helicopter was assisting with the search from about 9:30 to 10:20 p.m. Authorities from the New Jersey State Police Aviation Department said the helicopter left the scene, but was requested to be put on standby by the Washington Township Police, and the investigation is ongoing.
Police could not immediately release further details, and as of 10:40 p.m. the dispatch center could not confirm the incident had come to an end.
Patch will continue to update this story as more details become available.

It's 1030 and helicopter gone silent, we heard that they found the guy but nothing official. Also called the police dept earlier and not much information. Heard from fellow neighbor off Beacon that it was an emotional and distraught individual, suicidal.

There is no such section in Washington Twp. called "The Califon Section" It actually is still part of the Fairmount Section of Town. Califon is a very small Hunterdon County Town that does not even border Washington Twp.

I believe the article is referring to those of us who live in the section of Washington Twp. with Califon mailing addresses.
Hope that this individual is found and is safe.

Heard on the scanner that it was a suicidal man with a shotgun in a green pick up and that he lives in Califon.

LV Resident - You beat me to the punch! Yes, John Ader, that's what we're referring to. We know that there are a variety of mailing addresses in Washington Township, including Long Valley, Califon, Hackettstown, Port Murray, etc. When we mention "Califon section" of the township, we're referring to the mailing address and area of town so our readers can understand the location.
Hopefully this clears up any confusion, and thanks for the comments!

WOW !! Sometimes I wonder about the comments on Patch-Here the editor is, reporting that a man is missing in WT, and some of you are arguing where the borders are for Califon--Does it really matter--what matters is that a person is missing-hopefully they are found safe and sound

The individual was found and gave up his weapon to the Washington Township Police officers participating in the search. No one was injured in the incident. The WTPD will issue a press release to the media.
