Best Apple Pie Crowned at Green Market

Bakers submitted 13 variations of American classic.

Nothing says fall like pie.

The Long Valley Green Market didn’t shy away from the pastry, as it recently held its first annual Apple Pie Contest at the weekly vendor-based gathering.

There were 13 pies entered, and the competition “was fierce,” according to Green Market co-founder Leona Harrington.

Judges Gregg Forsbrey, Robin Gurin and Susan Coscia chose the winners after a pain-staking taste-testing session.

In the end, the first-place prize was awarded to Marge Buete, with second place going to Flavia Brock and third place being won by Jessica Lamb.

The Long Valley Green Market is open Thursdays from 3 to 7 p.m. at 20 Schooley’s Mountain Road.

Congrats!
Are any of these pies available for purchase at the Market, or were these strictly privately submitted?

Congratulations everyone! It is not every mother-in-law that can brag about her daughter-in-law's apple pie. Nice going, Jessica!
