One of West Morris Central’s students, Louisa Oualim, has proven her love for music to her classmates and teachers over the past two and-a-half school years.

Now, she’s being recognized for it on a countywide level.

Oualim was nominated by music teacher Carol Meiseles to be a Music Student of the Month as recognized by the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown for her involvement and love of music.

Seven musicians from Morris County were honored as the MPAC’s music students of the month for February in the category of Outstanding Orchestra Member.

Oualim is a violinist and member of the school’s orchestra, baroque orchestra, and a founding member of the Pocket String Quartet. She also performs with the Stone Symphony, a community orchestra in Morris County.

“During many lunch periods and after school, you can find Louisa in the music room with her string quartet rehearsing their music,” Meiseles said in her nomination letter.  “They were invited to perform at the National Honor Society and Foreign Language Society Inductions, as well as the IB Graduation Ceremony. Louisa is well respected among her peers and has shown great dedication as a student and musician!”

This isn’t the first time Oualim has been recognized for her school achievements, either. Along with Courtney Cross, Oualim was part of the team that won at New Jersey competition of National History Day in May 2012.
