High School Closed Wednesday and Thursday

Friday still uncertain, top administrator says.

West Morris Central High School will be closed Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 7 and 8 due to closed roads and remaining power outages in Washington Township.

Superintendent of Schools Mackey Pendergrast made the decision late Tuesday afternoon, stating the high school building is still without power as well, and that many roads in the township are impassable.

The high school, like the K-8 district, will be closed both days, but is hoping for a delayed opening Friday, Nov. 9, Pendergrast said. That, of course, will be contingent on progress made in the township.

To further complicate efforts, a Nor'easter is expected to hit the area Wednesday into Thursday, which could slow, or halt altogether, any utility repair efforts.

With this announcement, West Morris Central will have used nine inclement weather days this year. Only four were allotted when the school year began.

Can someone tell me why they are going to count Thursday and possibly Friday as missed school days when the schools were supposed to be closed for the teacher convention! Those days should NOT count as days to be made up...yes it would have been nice to have them, but the count of days closed should be 8 total for the two weeks.

Yes. I'd like to hear the answer to this as well.
