UPDATE: Beacon Hill Road Fire Started With Ashes From Fireplace

Fire departments from Washington Township, surrounding towns arrived to help.

A firefighter was hurt battling a Monday afternoon blaze on Beacon Hill Road that left a home there uninhabitable, Washington Township police said.

The resident of the home was uninjured and the fire was extinguished after about a half-hour. But police said a firefighter injured his hand and was transported to Hunterdon Medical Center by the Long Valley First Aid Squad.

Firefighters initially said it appeared the blaze started with a car that caught fire inside the garage, then spread to the interior of the home. But police said later Monday the fire actually started in ashes in the home's fireplace.
