Lunch 'N' Learn, Preseason Sports This Week

Don't forget about the Washington Township Schools final board meeting of the summer.

The last week of summer vacation is upon us! Even if there’s nothing to do, you have to do something, right?

Hopefully some of these tips will help you along the way.

You Need a Lunch ‘N’ Learn: The Washington Township Public Library will host a free Lunch ‘N’ Learn program about long term care for adults and seniors. The session goes from noon to 2 p.m. and will be conducted by Ela Goodman and Paula Ash. To find out more about the program, go here.

You Need to Know Hours: This will be the final week Washington Township municipal offices are on summer hours. Beginning next week, save for Labor Day, normal operating hours will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

You Need to Know About an Anniversary: Monday, Aug. 27 marks the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Irene touching down in Washington Township. Some of our coverage has shared our editor’s thoughts on that day and week, while readers have uploaded their own media and memories of the natural disaster. Feel free to add your own, too.

You Need a Meeting: Just because school’s out doesn’t mean the board of education is. The Washington Township School district board of education will hold its final meeting of the summer at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Long Valley Middle School. The board’s executive session will precede the meeting at 7 p.m. All are welcomed to attend.

You Need Some Preseason: The West Morris Central High School sports teams are gearing up for the 2012 campaign, and will take part in a handful of scrimmages this week. Among them: Girls’ freshman soccer at Pleasant Valley Park against Ridge High School at 10 a.m. Monday; Girls’ freshman field hockey at WMC against Ridge at 10 a.m. Tuesday; Girls’ varsity volleyball at Ramapo High School at 9 a.m. Thursday; and Girls’ junior varsity soccer against Morris Catholic at 10 a.m. Saturday.
