For starters, how about the Mayor explaining his thought process that led him to go on a Caribbean vacation while thousands of his constituents sat in their cold, dark, powerless homes? In addition, it would be helpful to know why the Mayor thought his communication from Aruba (link appears below) was sufficent in addressing the leadership needs of the township prior to the full restoral of power to all residents?

This is a response to a question you raised on another Patch thread. Some of the threads have gotten so long I can't trace back to your specific comment. It was along the lines of using the Public Library as a shelter if I understood you correctly. I agree that the Library staff stepped up to the plate and reopened the facility as soon as power was restored, even though initially there were problems with the heating system as a result of the storm. The number of residents utilizing the Library increased dramatically as soon as people became aware that there was a place with heat, lights, Internet & Wi-Fi connections, electrical outlets for using & recharging portable units, toilets, activities for children, snacks/water/coffee,etc. The Library is not suitable for 24/7 utilization as a shelter as there are specific standards set by the government regarding health and safety issues that the Library cannot meet. However, it might be possible to expand the hours the Library is open and install a generator to make it available in emergencies. That will have to be discussed with the Library Board, Library Director and the Township.

I would think that most residents have given up on expecting the truth from Ken Short. I can't imagine that your hard-working DPW employees were thinking that the mayor, while sipping cool rum punches under a beach umbrella in his speedo, was doing an effective job of communicating from Aruba while they were working long, back-breaking hours removing limbs from the roads and other duties JCP&L should have performed. Keep in mind that according to later reports, the township had to manage all of this with only one working telephone at town hall. I think many residents would also like to know where their vice-mayor was. Perhaps during the next big storm the entire town government should fly to an exotic carribean island and handle the crisis from there, since they can be, as the mayor said, "so effective".

FEED BACK?????? The words of this townships residents have fallen on deaf ears. The mayor would like feed back now? He was not too concerned during the storm, he was not proactive after the previous storms. His excuse that he had travel plans, is ridiculous (I would hope he was smart enough to have trip insurance). My feed back to the mayor is "RESIGN" and take a long vacation. Many people did not like Kevin Nedd when he was in office, but he is the voice of change and actually cares about this township. We need to rethink who is working in the safety and well-being of the residents of Washington Township.

Seems to me Jason that LVP would be better served just publishing each article. A separate Letters to the Editior page could be included instead of the comments, many of which always appear to be just the same worn out rants without offering much that is constructive.
