Power is still out for most of Washington Township. The Mayor said JCPL has to be held accountable... though didn't he say this last time around? Washington Township is 45 square miles, and is Morris County’s largest, most rural, and westernmost municipality. Why is it that the majority of the Township is still out?!? We need to be made a PRIORITY, instead of restoring power to JCPL customers who have had power but only recently lost it because of the snow storm. It is not fair or practical to keep residences in the dark and business unable to earn income because of JCPL's incompetence. It is also unconscionable to keep Washington Township's students out of school while other areas keep being restored

Any idea on when they may get over to the developments off of Naughright by Cucinella??? We always seem to be the last to have power restored!!

Agreed. We were told the other night by an Ohio crew that they'd be working our neighborhood starting yesterday. So far though, we haven't seen a soul around. They were supposed to work on Naughright, Mission, and Kim by Jackie. We're on Kim, and today there are even more wires down than there were yesterday. Probably one of the big trucks that have been detouring off Naughright past our house. We'll see if power is back by Friday like they told us.

I don't understand how Naughright can remain closed when more remote sections of the town are brought online. And how about the schools. IS ANYONE PAYING ATTENTION!!!

Still no power utility activity on Naughright Road between Jackie Drive and Arrowhead Drive! Large power lines down, telephone poles leaning at precarious angles. Road is still closed. Isn't Naughright Road a "Category 1" road that requires it to be open for emergency service vehicles? What if there was a fire or medical emergency? Critical time would be lost detouring aroung the closed section of the road!
Has the been ANY coordination between Washington Township & JCP&L regarding the 715 customers that are tied to the "Naughright" circuit, including the Cucinella school?
One begins to wonder if these 715 "customers" are not statistically relevant since JCP&L is claiming that the majority of it's customers have had their power restored.
It has been eleven days without power/heat/lights - this is CRIMINAL! When is this situation going to be addressed?

Meanwhile, they are actively working out in Green where the customers -served is less than Washington Twp! Looks like our mayor is too concerned with his own agenda to care about the voters that put him back into office (???). You are right, Lucille ~ the detour they set up with Janet/Kim/Jackie/Nancy/Mission has become a danger zone...every time I come to intersection of Kim/Jackie, I am close to being hit by someone cutting the corner or getting caught in the jumble of wires that continues to grow and move! I've even heard that our repair is an 'easy fix', but again, it doesn't serve their bottom line to repair such a 'low number of customers' when they can better their numbers by servicing other areas.....all about their profile (not that they should care at this point ~ I'm ready to contact one of those power companies that I am always receiving flyers from!!!).

The JCPL website says 4,195 without power, contradicting the above number. More to the point, communication from our municipal officials has been next to nonexistent. The Twp Twitter feed has barely been used, and no other social media communication. Meanwhile, the mayors of Mt Olive and Mt Arlington I am seeing posting to FaceBook every few hours updating their citizens. I can live without power - there are many who are far worse off - but the communication failure of our leadership and the failure to prioritize getting the schools open is absolutely unacceptable.

Hackettstown Mayor Maria DiGiovanni created a separae Facebook page so Hackettstown citizens can be updated on relevant news and she makes active use of this page. Long Valley, Wahsington Township collects a large amount of taxes with little representation and communication. What are you waiting for another tea party perhaps? This is survival time not sit back and make a couple of phone calls and call it a day. Take charge people and get this area up and running and our children back to school.

I think there should be fines imposed on the utilities for the time we customers are without power. JCP & L should be made to credit money to it's affected customers based on how long the power is out. Maybe then they'd make a better effort to get us hooked back up. I do realize that there is an incredible amount of repair work to be done, but it also seems like there's no rhyme or reason to how the work is being done. We should all withhold payment of our bills for as long as it takes them to fix what's broken.

I do not have power but I am less concerned with that at this point...WHY ARE THE CREWS NOT WORKING ON POWERING THE SCHOOLS!!!!!!!!! WHO IS DIRECTING THEM TO developements and side streets?? Again, I do not have power but where are the priorities!?!
Lucille Intiso Scheer
2:10 pm on Thursday, November 8, 2012
Carolyn, It's all well and good to say that the schools should be given priority, but in reality, what good is having the schools open when so many people have gone out of town to escape their cold, dark houses? Many roads are still impassable, creating a logistical nightmare for busing, and the majority of kids won't be able to get homework done sitting in the dark. Yes, school needs to get back in session, but not until it is safe to get the kids there.
Ljm09
2:20 pm on Thursday, November 8, 2012
For Lucille, the reason schools are usually given priority is not to have kids attend them a day after a storm but rather as shelters for the community if this disaster was worse where would we put the many displaced people?

Called the outage toll free number and guess what - you no longer get a live person. Select the prompt (number) that applys to your situation. I guess JCP&L took all their customer service people off the phones to go out and work on the downed lines. NOT!

Where on West Springtown are the crews? Drive on W Springtown - you'll have to drive under 2 trees to get to Zellers - once on Zellers you have a down transformer to the right and to the left you have low hanging wires and another tree you have to drive under to get to Middle Valley which is closed due to bridge work. In 10 days I have not seen a soul...and my fear is we are the infamous residents the JCPL rep Ron Morano emphatically stated that to replace 6 poles to replace 12 people is not realistic at this time...yet you call JCPL and they say Sunday by midnight for restoration...seriously? This would be a great area to have some TV crews visit!

there is still not a soul on bartley rd. pole is still down. I have seen busses going past but there is absolutely no power here and bartley is still down to one lane on a blind curve. 99% of the buses to the high school use this road, why is there no body here?

I understand this is a major storm that brought unprecedented damage to the entire state, and to a lesser extent, our town. What I can't fathom is this:
Why are the crews not working to get schools and critical businesses (ie: gas stations in this case) back on line first?

Sgp, the issue is that there are NO MORE REPLACEMENT POLES available. They are being shipped in from across the country, and it will take a while. There are shortages of other necessary materials as well: transformers and wire. The men were there ready to work, but they ran out of materials. Oops. Big management blunder.
This is not the mayor's fault, nor anybody else's fault except for JCP&L management, plain and simple.

Jon

They SHOULD have figured that out immediately after taking inventory of the damage on the first day or two and tallying up the results. They apparently failed to do that. That's why I'm calling it a management blunder.

Five suggestions for the mayor to alleviate some of the pain and show some genuine care for those without power:
1) Hire some food trucks that provide coffee, sandwiches, etc. Position them at various points in town and subsidize the cost so that people can have warm food for next to nothing. Announce their location on the town website.
2) Use a school buses to drive residents to 24 hour shelters, shelters serving food; or shelters better equipped than what we have. Post a schedule and pick-up locations on the website .
3) If you want to publicize the town's problem with JCP&L, take a school bus, fill it with some of the unhappy residents who are cold and hungry and drive it to the home of the JCP&L CEO. Park it in front of his house. Have a press conference. Invite the press; they would love it because it would be great post-election news. You'd get national coverage; far more than you get on the local radio station.
4) Put a daily messaged/update on the town website. Tell us what you know; update us as much as you can. You're becoming invisible.
5) Organize a group of people who can go door to door to check on our senior citizens and make sure they are okay.
What you are doing now isn't cutting it.

Just to make even more people love jcpl. First energy, their parent company, had a management/earning call recently. They said on the call that they plan to file a rate hike request by December 1st and use the sandy damage/cost as a reason for the rate hike. Now that's service.

Still no power on the southern end of Naughrihht/Squire Hill/Ranney. I will be filing a complaint against Jcpl with the Board ofPublic Utilities , http://www.nj.gov/bpu/assistance/complaints/inquiry.html they may not pay attention to our outage numbers but they will be forced to address 3000 complaints levied against them from our community.

What would help is if Governor Christie, instead of continually praising JCP&L for its lame efforts, issued an executive order prohibiting JCP&L from billing any customer for any month in which the customer did not have power for 14 days or more. Our power would be back on within one day of that order.

Only way to get the message through to JCPL is to impact their cash flow and profits. Do not pay an estimated bill for October. Tell tem you want them to read the meter (based in their response rate that could take 2 weeks). Consider switching your electricity contract to another provider. JCPL will still get a portion of a payment for their Infrastructure and you will pay a lower rate per KW used to another provider. Overall, you will save money and JCPL will lose their profit margin on the KW usage.
We're on Fairview Ave and now day 10 and have seen 4 different crews from out of state that stopped at the trees and lines down blocking street. They assessed, wrote reports, talked on phone, promised "tomorrow" for a line crew and then left. I followed a power contracted tree crew with 2 cherry pickers through Long Vally this morning. After 3 separate sites 4 miles apart, I got tired of following. Suspect JCPL is not processing work orders to authorize their work or they can't touch trees without a line and pole crew. Where is JCPL?

I just bought a house on Old Farmers this past year. I love the area overall, and from where my husband and I were living previously, it is a big improvement. I first want to express my gratitude to all those out-of-state workers that are working away from wives and children to help our state in this time of need. I also would like to say that yes, I am grateful to still have a house standing (that is also not flooded), a lot more than many can say. However, at this point, this many days without power seems inexcusable. I have a small child at home and my husband and myself both work (and have still been expected at work throughout all of this). It has been very difficult when we have woken in our home to see our own breath...to the point we have now been living back and forth between in-laws, commuting with ourselves, baby, 2 dogs and a cat (and burning a lot of fuel). Although our situation seems desperate, it is far from desperate when compared to the elderly without heat/power, or perhaps ability to get to necessary medications. I do live on the same road as an elementary school...I do not understand how "triage" works in this situation...but as someone else above mentioned, on top of how important it is to have a school's power restored to get children back into the classroom (and also help parents now with childcare needs get to work) these buildings could also be used as shelters. I am now looking into using our savings for a good generator instead of a new roof.
