A man who attempted driving through the center of Long Valley Sunday morning got stuck at the intersection of Schooley's Mountain and East Mill Road, needing to be saved by first responders.

Moron!!!! What a waste of time for the rescuers. That dumb ass should've stayed home, or they should've let him stay in his car and suffer the consequences!!!

i'm glad everyone is okay but who cares if he was taken to the hospital or not... they had to bring the firetruck over the bridge and he risked the lives of the rescuers. If he had to go see his family in south jersey he should've planned for that well in advance of the storm. There isn't a chance in hell that he was coming from some far away land (e.g. Canada) and his GPS suggested that he drive thru the center of town. at least they were able to capture this on film so they can mold the new Darwin Awards after him.

He still should have stayed on more major roadways.

If he was from the area he probably would have stayed on more major roads but GPS took him over the mountains to 206 because he was coming from a home in that area. Like the rest of the people on the roads this morning most of them just being nosie thought the critical part of the storm was over.

I can't speak for water but I just took a trip down flicktown, springtown and rock road and can say that the roads are not safe. Tree debris is continually falling and there are wires on the road in front of the church on rock road

Thanks for the comment, Showtime31. Yes, the center of town is open, but West Mill Road is still closed for flooding and Fairmount is blocked off for downed trees and wires. You can drive up Schooley's Mountain Road and East Mill Road.

@exlongvalley...Thank you so much..i really appreciate it .....@robthomaseyes actually because the river is so so close to my backyard i know the bridge sometimes floods esp rises with even a big thunderstorm...so i left voluntarily pretty much knowing me and the kids would be stuck for days with no ability to get out...thank goodness i did too....

Ok for those of you who are so critical of the driver. He was not from around here and following another truck that made it through. He was following his gps to get home to his wife and small child in south jersey and did what any good father/husband would do. Get home any way he could. The driver was not taken to the hospital or treated for any injuries!!!!! There was plenty of local people out and about and stuck as well. How come there was no mention of the man that had to be rescued from the house on the corner there.

Does it make him a good father/husband to drive the back roads of NJ during a tropical storm? He didn't get to his wife and small child now did he? A general rule of thumb is if the airport is closed, it's best to stay put.

Schooleys my rd by the golf course and golden skillet toward hackettstown and newburgh road is toward shop-rite in h town. The water was 1 ft over the bridges when I got there and spoke to the police officer. There was a car at the newburgh location that tried to cross there (young kid). After the police left, they pushed the car toward the water I guess they were hoping for a complete total.

Thank you for the great pictures and news. We are former long time residents
of Long Valley, now living in Florida. We were worried here about the hurricane,
but it stayed way east of us. We really appreciate the news and will be looking for more.

You seem to be under the impression that the police are concerned with public safety. It's hard to eat your donuts when people keep calling with annoying questions like that.

momof3 ... you have to be kidding me. Road conditions were awful at best and the PD is swamped (no pun intended) with dozens of calls for service ... and you want to know what the road conditions were like. Unreal.

How dare you...im a town citizen as i assume u are..and im sure ur sitting nice and comfy in your home and not a shelter right now....like me and my three toddlers. I am nowhere NEAR my home in long valley and so why wouldnt i call to see if the water was receeding? If i had a business in town would i not have the same right? Why so judgemental anyway? Lets hope you or ur loved ones never have a crisis....Lord knows we need people like me to be empathetic to apathetic jerks like you..rob.....

(btw, on internet threads people who do what you do are called *trolls*. Trolling around to criticize and condemn others with judgement and hate) Like i said...i'll be sure to pray for you.

momof3, I hope you got some answers and you're back home. Try to ignore the comments from that guy. Rob clearly has no class or empathy! He must've been a bully in school, and he still a bully as an "adult". Good luck and I hope your house wasn't affected by the flood!

Fortunately, that intersection , Mill Rd and Schooley's Mt Rd, was clear and looking normal when I went through there at 8:30 Monday morning. If the driver and the first responders are all OK, the car retrieved, and people are cleaning up after the water damage... it's a good day.
