Basking Ridge teens were among those training to become junior firefighters.

Kurt Schenek of Washington Township was among 100 Morris County teenagers who spent 150 of their summer's hours to train become a junior firefighter at the Public Safety Training Academy on Hanover Avenue.  The course—the same training received by older firefighters—includes classroom and hands-on training.

Schenek is training to become a junior firefighter for the Schooley's Mountain Fire Company.

Photos and video were taken of the final training day, Tuesday, at this year's firefighters-to-be.

Congratulations to Kurt and the other Morris County teens who understand that citizens need to be involved in their communities and who are getting an early start. Thank you for giving up part of your summer vacation.
