Bob Prudente owner of Bob's Pizza. Bob did everthing possible and remained open during the Sandy fiasco...never missing a beat and feeding many, many people, as well as providing a warm place to sit commisorate with nieghbors and friends. The whole time Bob's remained open though he was basically losing money, as the expense of fuel for generators and overtime pay combined for much greater operating expenses over those 2 weeks. Bob proved to be a steady pillar of the community.

Hi PAS - Thanks so much for the comment. We began seeking nominations last week and took the top contenders from that article to be part of this poll. Sorry we couldn't include Bob's name, but he sure is a great guy! :)

The first aid responders/EMTs. Ken Short does not deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as any of the other nominees. In fact, it is an insult to them that he was even nominated at all.

Glenn Lightner deserves it. I appreciate the other nominees very much, but Glenn really touched my heart.
My vote goes to him.

Domino, Not taking a side here, but wanted to point out that Mayor Short's nomination was intended to point out his perceived failures to lead during the wake of Sandy.

Gladfy's comment is right on the money. The request for nominations asked who had the most influence in Long Valley "for better or for worse." Mayor Short was placed in nomination for his less than heroic actions in abandoning the township in the aftermath of Sandy for a warm, sunny Aruba vacation while thousands of his constituents sat in their cold, dark, powerless homes.

The saddest (and most frustrating) part is that we thousands of constituents are completely powerless when it comes to blocking Kevin Nedd from posting on this site.

Lets keep it positive , make the vote for a hero.i certainly vote for glen because he doesn't have another chance to earn a reward this year, and he endured and battled his illness even more than what he could take because he had the whole town supporting him. He was our hero of the year. All his time, energy, and endurance was to battle the wickedest of opponents.....cancer, and he couldn't take off his uniform and leave the field...his opponent never left him alone, day and night,24/7 his precious young body fought from age 9-14.my daughters classmate Glenn exuded amazing courage and love for us all by never forgetting where he came from and sharing his journey with us.

What a ridiculous idea, "person of the year." There are unsung heroes all around us going about their business everyday not asking for praise or recognition. These are the people of the year. They make the community what it is. An absured stunt like this only serves to divide the community (as seen by reading these posts). Unfortunately those who have an outlet seem intent on divisiveness these days.

Shining a bright light on public officials for their actions or inaction isn't divisiveness, it's accountability.

That is why Glenn Lightner and his family are the perfect candidate(s). Not once did they "ask" for anything. People CHOSE to help their neighbor. The Lightner's motivation, courage and drive to save their child inspired a town, taught our kids the understanding of helping one another.... to be better people. And as my friend, David noted...the Lightner's took the initiative in cancer research, for their beloved son, to a new level. If you don't get why that is worthy of recognition...I hope you stay well and safe and never "need" something from a neighbor.
