Washington Twp., WMC Schools Closed Wednesday
Third consecutive day without power and road closures.
Washington Township Schools and West Morris Central High School will be closed again on Wednesday, Nov. 2, due to downed trees, power lines and power outages across Washington Township.
A statement on the Washington Township Schools website Tuesday afternoon read:
As a matter of safety during this time of crisis all schools will need to remain closed tomorrow, November 2, as emergency crews continue to remove downed power lines, clear fallen trees, and restore electricity. Please be sure to avoid downed wires as such can become live during the restoration process.
Every effort is being made to ensure public safety and the Washington Township School District is continuing to work closely with local officials to ensure the children's safe return to school. This will include a critical inspection of all accessible bus stops. We are hopeful to reopen on Thursday and will have a much clearer picture during the day tomorrow.
This is the third consecutive day schools in town have been closed due to the pre-winter storm that dumped a foot of snow on Washington Township Saturday.
Overall, this is the fourth inclement weather day of the 2011-12 school year.

Has there been any request for residents WITH power to volunteer any kind of assistance to others?? We only just had ours restored last night, but would be willing to help other families who are still enduring this.

There has not been any communication from West Morris Central saying that they will be closed on Wednesday. We only got a message from the Washington Township School system. Are you sure WMC is closed as well, they are 2 different school districts.

According to the district website, if more than 4 emergency days are used by Feb 1st, then Feb. 21st will be added as a school day. Any additional days will be added to the end of the school year in June.

The high school is not considered part of the Washington Township School system. That's why I get 2 phone calls every time the school is closed, one from Washington Township Schools and one from West Morris Central HS.

I would not assume the high school is closed! The high school is a different district with 5 towns consulting on decisions to close school. The schools work on different schedules. They usually close together, but the HS will not add days onto the end of the school-year if they use all their snow days. They will take away from spring break. HS has 5 snow days allotted. WTS has only 4.
