Week in Review: Big Moves By School Boards

Township names mayor, vice mayor for 2012.

 

Washington Township has finally begun to see the winter temperatures roll in, and 2011 is merely a memory. The week is now behind us, but not before there was plenty of news to report on.

The annual Washington Township Reorganization meeting was held on Jan. 7, where committeemen Ken Short and Bill Roehrich were selected by the governing body to serve as mayor and vice mayor, respectively, in 2012. Committeeman Tracy Tobin was also sworn in at that meeting, and the township’s volunteer first responders officially took their administrative positions.

The West Morris Regional Board of Education was presented with a motion by representative Marcia Asdal to accept the resolution put forth by the borough of Chester, requesting the body not go forward with a search for superintendent until after the April election. This would give the soon-to-be-seated Chester representative a say in the hiring process, but many board members agreed that time was of the essence.

On Tuesday night, the Washington Township Schools Board of Education addressed the projected drop in enrollment facing the township over the next five years, and requested the community support them in any decision-making process. The board said any discussion or decisions made will be held publicly. Find out more by reading this.

She may go down as the best basketball player in the history of West Morris Central, and breaking the all-time points record is a great start.
