Where Is the Happiest Happy Hour?
Patch wants to know which watering hole offers the best late day gathering.
As the weather warms up and the days grow longer, the time to enjoy the seasons has come.
And for many, that means taking in some late afternoon spirits and toasting to the end of a long work day.
So, Patch wants to know which local bar has the best happy hour. We've combined Washington Township, Chester and Mendham establishments.
Here are your choices:
Long Valley Pub & Brewery
Splash Pasta & Seafood Restaurant
Valley Pub and Restaurant
Cornerstone Tavern & Grill
Lamplighter
Publick House
Black Horse Inn/Tavern
Old Mill Tavern
(If we're leaving one off the list, please let us know in the comments section)
The winner will be selected on a point system based on poll votes and directory ratings. If there is a tie, a winner will be determined by the amount of positive comments posted on this article and positive reviews received on its directory listing. For full contest rules, click on the PDF attached to this article.
Voting in the poll below is open until 9 a.m. Friday. Ties will be broken by whichever business has the most positive comments and reviews. We will announce the winner at noon Friday.

How can you possibly leave out the Old Mill Tavern in Chester? Best wings in the area.

Hey Hungry,
Thanks so much for bringing that to our attention - we've added the Old Mill Tavern to the article and poll.

Great, a poll encouraging people to partake in happy hour on their way home. When you get the final result, be sure to notify the WTPD where to station themselves so they can nail the drivers who have enjoyed a few “afternoon spirits” after their long day at work.

Hey Hookerman,
Thanks for the comment, but I'd have to disagree with you. I can't say we're encouraging residents to partake in happy hour, but because we know some people like to grab a quick bite or drink around dinner time, we're asking where is the best place to do that.
Thanks again for weighing in!

Hookerman,
How is this encouraging people to have too many "afternoon spirits"? Who even says "afternoon spirits" anymore? It is a poll to see who has the best happy hour, which means best specials on food and drink and atmosphere. Go back to hanging out in the woods by yourself and your stick in the mud. We will enjoy the nice weather and great food.

Did you read the article Guzz???
“As the weather warms up and the days grow longer, the time to enjoy the seasons has come. And for many, that means taking in some late afternoon spirits and toasting to the end of a long work day.”
These are Jason’s words, not mine. Years ago, happy hours were very popular in the corporate world, but not they are discouraged because of the incidences of people driving home after having a few too many. Are my concerns about this happening in our town overly paranoid??? Well considering that I read about DWI incidences in Washington Twp on an almost daily basis on this patch, I would say no.

DWI occur in every town in every state. No matter what there will be irresponsible people where ever one might live. For every idiot out there, there are thousands more who are responsible, patronizing local establishments for a quick refreshment and bite to eat. Its always nice to enjoy a cold drink and snacks with a group of friends after a long day at work.

I perused through the past few weeks of headlines from the Long Valley Patch, and this is what I found;
5/15 - Cops: Driver was Drunk When Vehicle Crashed
5/11 - Cops: Woman Drove Drunk recklessly
5/7 - Cops: Drunk Driver Was Speeding
5/5 - Cops: Drunk Driver Was Leaving Lot the Wrong Way
5/2 - Cops: Drunk Man Assaulted Two Officers
4/30 - Cops: Drunk Driver Grew Pot, Had Shotgun
4/23 - Cops; Stanhope Man Drove Drunk on Rt. 46
4/20 - Cops: Driver Was Drunk, Asleep at the Wheel
This may happen in every town, but this seems like a lot of incidences for a small, rural community such as ours. And these are only the people who were caught…. how many more people were DUI that we don’t even know about???
Oh well.... bottom’s up!

well you are going to have a lot of local incidents in a local newspaper. Look at the dailyrecord at the police blotter and look at the number of alcohol related offenses all of the county. Also our police department patrols an extremely large area (almost 45sq.miles bordering 3 counties and numerous different towns) with a lot of commuters. Are we really a "small, rural community" anymore?
Sounds like you would support prohibition too!

There’s nothing wrong with a responsibly consumed aperitif, or two.

This is actually a really, really interesting point. This topic was chosen for us on a corporate level, but as a non-drinker, I never considered the happy hour concept because I never participated.
But much like after an improv show, I will partake in half price appetizers...does going to happy hour for cheaper drinks mean you will ingest more?
And you do have to get home after.
This is fascinating and I want to ruminate on it more. Maybe see if there is a poll or something hiding in there.
I also don't think you can say "afternoon spirits" without "imbibe" being in the same sentence...
