The West Morris Central field hockey team suffered its first loss Saturday, losing a heartbreaker of a game to Randolph, 1-0 in overtime. According to Coach Courtney Bertos, the girls dominated the entire game but just couldn’t muscle the ball into the goal. Monday against Roxbury, two of the three goals scored by the Wolfpack were ‘muscled’ past the goalie. The Wolfpack again dominated the game shutting out the Gaels, 3-0.

IN SHORT
Three different Wolfpack players scored goals in the game. The first half was evenly matched with action on both sides of the field. The first half ended with the Wolfpack ahead, 1-0. Central dominated the second half with most of the action played in front of Roxbury’s goal.

WOLFPACK OF THE GAME
Michelle Hennelly—Her goal at the 10:37 mark in the first half proved to be the winning goal. She also assisted on a goal by teammate Erin Gutkind.

OTHER KEY PERFORMANCES
Mimi Journey—The senior scored the second goal for the Wolfpack just six minutes into the second half. She also assisted on Hennelly’s score.

THEY SAID IT
“All during the game all I kept hearing in my head was what (Coach) Bertos has been saying for the last couple of days, ‘be hungry in the circle.’” – Hennelly

“When they play like they did in the second half then we can compete with anyone. On Saturday (against Randolph) we had a lot of chances but couldn’t score—they knew they had to capitalize today.” – Coach Bertos
