1,500 Lose Power In Washington Twp. After Heavy Downpour

Restoration estimated for later in the evening, Jersey Central Power & Light says.

A late afternoon downpour that swept through Washington Township knocked out power to 1,504 people Thursday, with an estimated time of restoration not until later into the night.

Dark clouds rolled in around 4:30 p.m. which led to steady rain just after 5 p.m. The skies opened up just after 6 p.m. and torrential rains clobbered the area.

The center of Long Valley, including the stop light at the intersection of Schooley's Mountain Road and East Mill Road, was powerless as of 7:15 p.m. to go along with some 22-percent of the township.

Jersey Central Power & Light's estimated time for complete restoration was 9:30 p.m. Thursday.
