Junior Women's Club Set to Run First Family-Focused 5K

April event will benefit local non-profit organizations.

From spelling bees to taking over residential lawns with pink flamingos, the Long Valley Junior Women’s Club has become entrenched in charitable efforts in Washington Township.

In 2014, the group is embarking on a new event, bringing families together outdoors for some fun and exercise.

The first-ever Long Valley Junior Women’s Club 5K Family Fun Run/Walk is set for Sunday, April 27 at 9 a.m. on the Columbia Trail. The event won’t be timed and participants will have the choice to either walk or run.

“Our hope is that we can provide an opportunity for families to get outdoors and be active together, while also being part of the community and supporting our local charities,” said event coordinator Kelly Pelesky.

Proceeds will go toward local food pantries, schools, fire companies, first aid squad, and foster parents of Morris County, Pelesky said.
