Teen Secures $1,500 for Local Needy Kids

Long Valley's Abby Bauer volunteers with Homeless Solutions, Inc.

She’s just a high school freshman, but that doesn’t mean Abby Bauer isn’t making a major difference in the lives of others.

The Long Valley teen has been volunteering with Homeless Solutions, Inc. for the past three years, according to the organization’s communications manager Susan Robinson. Among her efforts is planning and managing children’s programs two nights a month and helping at large events, Robinson said.

When Bauer recently learned that some of the children in the organization’s shelter and transitional housing program are not able to participate in recreation sports due to financial difficulties, the local volunteer took it upon herself to make a difference.

New York Mets third basemen David Wright began his own foundation in 2005 to provide aid and assistance toward the health, emotional development, and education for children in need. Knowing this, Bauer reached out to the foundation and explained what was going on with the kids at Homeless Solutions, Inc.

The David Wright Foundation turned around and made a $1,500 donation to Homeless Solutions, Inc. for the purposes of covering fees for recreation sports for the kids.

“Thank you so much to the David Wright Foundation and to our loyal supporter, Abby Bauer,” Robinson said.
