Transit of Venus Captured on LV Teen's iPhone
Suzanna Nussbaum used a smartphone and a telescope to grab a once-in-a-lifetime photo.
MORRIS COUNTY, NJ -- Hundreds of thousands of spectators took to the outdoors on June 5 to witness a rare event, as the planet Venus moved past the sun in orbit.
Locally, some 60 astronomy enthusiasts took to for the Transit of Venus as part of the 's event, in conjunction with the New Jersey Astronomical Association.
Rain and cloud cover gave way to clear skies after 6 p.m., and 13-year-old Long Valley resident Suzanna Nussbaum grabbed an amazing photograph.

Holding her iPhone up to the eyepiece of an 8" filtered dobsonian telescope, Nussbaum was able to grab the picture attached to this article.
The rainbowed reflections are an artifact of the reflection between the cell phone's camera lens and the telescope's eyepiece.
