Facility Monitors Approved for High Schools

District narrowly approves two personnel members to work at Central, Mendham high schools this year.

Unlike the start of the 2012-13 school year, facility monitors – not administrators – will be canvassing the campuses of West Morris Central and Mendham high schools.

In a special meeting held Wednesday night by the West Morris Regional Board of Education, a vote to extend contracts for facility monitors John Notte and Joseph Szoke was taken and approved, 5 to 3, according to the district’s business office.

The issue was brought to the board at its Aug. 19 meeting but did not pass, as personnel matters require a full majority of the board for approval. The last vote was defeated 4 to 3, with board members Jamie Button, Marcia Adal and Don Storms dissenting.

Wednesday night’s vote had three nays again, the same as the first vote, but board members James Johnston, John Meyer, Tom Richar, Jacke Schram and Lisa Woodring all approved.

The contract for each of the facility monitors is for $25 per hour for up to four hours each school day. If completely utilized, the pair would account for $36,000 in pay for the entire school year.

Approving the facility monitors at the start of the 2012 school year took two votes as well, and required administrators to handle those duties for the first week of the school year until the board could hold session again.

Classes begin at both high schools on Monday, Sept. 9.
