Fore! Black Oak Breaks Ground on New Clubhouse

New building will replace current trailer set-up housing pro shop and restaurant.

A vision has finally become a reality at Black Oak Golf Club.

The sprawling course located on Bartley Road held its ceremonial groundbreaking on Saturday, Nov. 30 in front of about 70 members and residents, along with public officials, for the building of a brand new clubhouse.

It took six years for the clubhouse to get by approvals from the Highlands and Department of Environmental Protection after conforming with the township's requirements. In the meantime, a front desk, pro shop and restaurant were housed in two trailers, which will be removed once the clubhouse is complete.

On hand for the ceremony were members of Black Oak's ownership, Washington Township Mayor Ken Short, Vice Mayor Bill Roehrich, and state Senator Anthony Bucco.

The expanded clubhouse will feature a full pro shop, restaurant, men’s and women’s locker rooms, and possibly some extras, according to the course’s designer and Professional Golfer’s Association member David Glenz.

Glenz, now a teacher of the sport who gives lessons at the Club, is excited about the coming changes.

“(The new clubhouse) will bring in more players and complete this vision,” Glenz said in October. “A lot of people were waiting on the clubhouse to be built to make a full commitment.”

In addition to the clubhouse, the club will also build a platform tennis court just north of the current parking lots.
