Windt’s Streak, Migz, Luciano and Schade Pace 'Pack Wrestlers

Jesse Windt and David Migliaccio went 5-0, while John Schade and Dylan Luciano contributed four wins each to pace the Pack.

West Morris Central’s wrestling Wolfpack went 3-2 this week, defeating Chatham, Mendham and Westfield and falling to powerhouses Kittatinny and Delaware Valley. Jesse Windt and David Migliaccio went 5-0, while John Schade and Dylan Luciano contributed four wins each to pace the Pack.

Christian Trimarchi, Michael Oros, Caleb Isemann and Aldo Cammalleri each added three victories.

The team is 9-8 on the season, and is “looking forward to being a top competitor in the Morris County Tournament [Friday],” according to Schade. “Last year we placed second. With the hard work we have all put in we are aiming high.”

Team captain Windt, named Morris County High School Wrestling’s (www.morriscountyhswrestling.com) Wrestler of the Week, scored six team points (the maximum) for an 11th consecutive match. That’s a streak never reached by many of NJ wrestling royalty, including Dillon Artigliere, John Sebastian and even Anthony Ashnault (career 170-0).

Scoring six is rarely the priority; wins are the wrestler’s currency. Windt isn’t lacking there – at 21-1, he’s tied for first in New Jersey at 220 lbs..  But scoring six is the most you can do for your teammates, coaches and school during a match -- making Windt’s domination streak special for many.

Pin Cancer Night vs. Chatham

WMC defeated Chatham 49-15 last Tuesday as both teams fought a common foe on Pin Cancer night. Shea Owens and Dunn scored their first-ever varsity wins – Dunn defeating Peter Joel (previously 7-4). Other notable victories included Kade Loughney over Emanuel Rodriguez (10-4) and Schade over Luke Ciccarelli (11-6).

The teams sported Pin Cancer (www.pincancer.org) singlets as generous fans purchased gear and 50/50 tickets to raise $1,300 for cancer research.

Nick Stanzione, Trimarchi, Oros, Migliaccio, Cammalleri and Windt also had their hands raised on a big night for a big cause.

Mendham

The Pack topped rival Mendham Thursday 40-27 as Windt’s max-scoring streak ended at 11 – but not his win streak. He defeated the dangerous Aaron Flitcroft (15-4) by 3-0. Cammalleri’s dramatic pin of Dan Maresca may have been the match of the night, assuring the Wolfpack victory. Oros scored WMC’s only other pin on a night they were not easy to come by.  Loughney, Isemann and Luciano (over a very tough Chris Schlegel) won by tech fall. Metzler, Schade and Migz joined the victory parade in a match WMC needed to stay in the Sectionals hunt.

Kittatinny, Del Val, Westfield Quad

NJ #14 ranked Kittatinny defeated WMC 48-21 Saturday. Windt was brilliant, serving District 3 champion Garret Armstrong (21-4) his only pin of the season. Migz won by fall, Isemann by tech and Metzler by major over Taylor Molfetto (15-9) to round out Wolfpack scoring.  Luciano’s only loss of the week was controversial, falling 5-4 to District 3 place winner Christian Silva (17-9).

Migliaccio’s come-from-behind overtime victory over Cory Lightner (13-4) and Trimarchi’s gutty 5-3 loss to Ryan Erwin (15-6) highlighted WMC’s 44-23 setback to 20th ranked Del Val.  Windt won by tech fall, with Schade, Luciano and Isemann contributing victories.

WMC defeated 8-4 Westfield 45-29 in the finale’.  Pins from Ben Yaskulka (his varsity first), Luciano (vs. 12-5 Kevin Miller) and Windt, along with a notable Schade victory over 11-8 Nick Kalimtzis led the way. Noah Yaskulka impressed, fending off the pin from 24-1 Matt Barber, ranked #3 in NJ by Wrestling Full Circle.

Up Next

WMC travels to “the pit” to take on 7th ranked Phillipsburg tonight, then to Parsippany Hills tomorrow (Wednesday).

Schade said the team is “all rooting for Jesse Windt to become WMC’s first-ever two-time County Champion!” at this weekend’s Morris County Tournament at Mt. Olive.
