Budd Lake Teens Memorialized With Sign

Township says more formal action will be taken in the spring.

Just a couple weeks after two Mt. Olive Township teens went missing in the icy waters of Budd Lake, a sign has been erected near the water’s edge in remembrance of the youngsters.

“In Loving Memory to Nick and Clyde” the sign reads in a photo Mayor Rob Greenbaum posted to his public Facebook page.

The teens, Clyde Schimanski III and Nick Cianciotto III, both 15, went missing just after 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7 after ice fishing on the ice. Their bodies were recovered over the next two days.

“So that we shall never forget,” Greenbaum wrote along with posting the photo on the social media site. The mayor also made mention of doing “something more formal in the spring,” in the post Tuesday afternoon.

Greenbaum did not respond to questions from Patch regarding the sign and what the town is planning on doing more formally in the spring.

Schimanski and Cianciotto were both students at Mt. Olive High School, and the community rallied around the families, creating pages through donation websites raising funds for both of the teens’ funerals.
