At the Washington Township Committee’s regular meeting this week, the governing body gave the police department the go-ahead to order one more vehicle than originally discussed, as the deadline to make the request came sooner than expected. The department and committee are still discussing the potential purchase of two four-wheel drive vehicles.

Fallen Heroes Road Name Honors OK’d by Twp.

After first being discussed during a November committee meeting, the township has approved the implementation of three roads to be renamed in honor of Long Valley residents killed in military action. Two will be on private lanes, and the third on the entryway to the Senior Center.

A Monday morning fire in a Flanders apartment took the lives of a 52-year-old man and 7-year-old boy, while two women escaped and a girl was rescued. The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office said the cause of the fire was altered wiring on a space heater, and the apartment was without smoke detectors.

8-Month Rt. 57 Detour Set to Begin Friday

While it’s not actually happening in Washington Township, a long bridge-fixing project by the New Jersey Department of Transportation is scheduled to begin and impact drivers who use Kings Highway, Stephensburg Road, and Old Turnpike Road.
