Fallen Long Valley Hero Honored by Community

At its annual Memorial Day Ceremony, the American Veterans Association of Washington Township honored James “Jamie” Smith, a Long Valley native, by naming a road for him at Rock Spring Park.

Cops Blow Up Suspicious Bag at Dunkin’ Donuts

An abandoned duffle bag outside a Mt. Olive Dunkin’ Donuts sparked some fear for folks in the area who reported the suspicious bag to police. The Morris County bomb squad arranged a controlled explosion to make sure the bag would not hurt anyone. An investigation revealed lighting equipment, not harmful to the public, was inside.

Criminal ‘Cops’ Caught in Alleged Robbery Spree

Police officers from Washington Township, Mendham Township and Dover came together to help find and arrest two alleged robbers who were posing as police officers and targeting illegal immigrants, according to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

$478K Eyed for Twp. Road Repairs in 2013

Three road projects for the current year have been chosen by the Washington Township Committee, allotting just under half a million dollars for the repaving. Those roads include Old Farmers, Wehrli, and East Springtown Road.

Three Girl Scouts from Washington Township earned their Silver Award in a very generous way, collecting approximately 4,000 books to help restore damaged libraries in Monmouth County that were devastated by Super Storm Sandy in 2012.
