Roads Stay Closed, Outages Dip Below 1K

Afternoon commute won't be any different than morning's.

The clean-up and relief effort in Washington Township continued Thursday, as some 1,300 people woke up without power, according to JCP&L's outage map.

That number dipped as the day went on, with the area's energy provider saying just 915 residences remained powerless at 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

JCP&L has continued its message that 95 percent of customers will be restored by end of day Thursday, with the remaing 5 percent getting power back on Friday. Morris County as a whole still had 16,145 outages reported Thursday afternoon.

Roads throughout town remained closed, though, as utility crews were still making rounds. No more roadways would be reopened before 4 p.m., according to Washington Township Police Sgt. Doug Compton.

Work that is remaining in areas that are closed is the responsibility of JCP&L, according to Compton. Clean up and power restoration will likely go on through the weekend, he said.
