Food for fines program begins at Washington Township Library.

The leaves are changing, the temperatures are dipping, and it’s time to dig out the sweat clothes. That must mean it’s October!

The first week of the tenth month is full of things going on, so let’s take a look at what you should know about.

You Need to Pay By Donating: The Washington Township Library’s Food for Fines program kicks off Monday and runs through Saturday, Oct. 14. The program allows residents with overdue fines up to $5 to have their delinquencies forgiven by donating non-perishable food items. The items will directly benefit the Washington Township Food Pantry. .

You Need to Meet Local Celebrities: Long Valley resident Kim Kavin, an award-winning journalist and recent book author will be at the Washington Township Library signing copies of her recent publishing, based on her pet, Blue. The book, titled “Little Boy Blue,” is about Kavin’s journey in rescuing her puppy. The event will be held Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. Go here for more.

You Need a Board Meeting: The Washington Township School district board of education will meet Tuesday, Oct. 2 at the Long Valley Middle School at 7 p.m., with open session beginning at 7:30 p.m. The meeting is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend.

You Need to Help the Pet Adoption League: The organization will hold its annual tricky tray on Friday, Oct. 5 at Minebrook Golf Club in Hackettstown. Doors open at 6 p.m. with calling starting at 7:45 p.m. Admission is $15.
