Week in Review: Championships and Tree Planting Top The List

We also celebrated the Washington Township Historical Society's Anniversary.

It was wet and soggy in town for parts of the week and the roads certainly showed it. But it was still an eventful week of news and goings on in town, so in case you missed it, here’s what happened.

The week started with a recap of last weekend’s Washington Township Historical Society 50th Anniversary Celebration. The two-day event explored early events and people involved in the establishment of German Valley, known today as Long Valley. Check

On Tuesday Long Valley Patch gave its readers a sectional basketball title! Well, OK, it was the girls’ basketball team that won the crown, but we were there to cover it! The Lady Highlanders for the first time in school history. The team played Teaneck in the group semifinals on Wednesday , but a historic run will not be soon forgotten. Congratulations to the Lady Highlanders!

The deadline to hand in a petition to run for a school board seat was 4 p.m. on Tuesday, and volunteers seeking positions for both the Washington Township and West Morris Regional districts were made known. Go of names that will be on the April 27 ballot.

The Shade Tree Committee gave a presentation at its monthly meeting this week, and explained the . The group also shed some light on pest problems and how to deal with them.
