Week in Review: Crosswalk, Broadway Hit LV

Twp. resident to start support group for those affected by suicide.

From heavy-duty meetings to Broadway shows coming to town, it was another news-filled week in Long Valley.

The week kicked off with a bang, as the Washington Township Committee approved nearly a million dollars in funding for road repairs to take place in 2012. Those roads include East Valley Brook Road, Wehrli Road, and Fairview Avenue. .

At that same meeting, the governing body discussed its stance on the feasibility study being considered by the exploratory committee that is seeking ways to change or potential alter funding and structure in the regional school district. The five committeemen were all in favor of the list of study options.

Sixth graders at the have completed their months-long projects where they proposed–and executed–ideas on how to change the world. The Gallery Walk for the projects was open to friends and family on Tuesday.

After months of requests and vocal Morris County installed a crosswalk connecting the Columbia Trail entryways across Schooley’s Mountain Road on Thursday morning. All that’s left is to install handicapped-accessible ramps, and the project will be complete. .

Long Valley Patch sat down with Paula Field-Nichols this week, whose son, Stephen, . Field-Nichols is beginning a support group in June to help those who have dealt with the loss of a loved one to suicide. The first meeting will be June 6 at Trinity Church in Hackettstown.

The big, bright lights of Broadway shone on Flocktown Elementary School this week, as fourth graders put together “The Unexpected Quest,” a comedic journey through history. Chorus singing, acting and narration were all part of the show, which kept the audience laughing and dancing along.
