Week in Review: Farm Stand, Officials Open Up

Three students have a chance to do good deeds with $100.

Washington Township saw rain, sun, heat advisories and spring temperatures in the past week. And as crazy as that was, it was pretty comparable to the diversity of the news we covered at Long Valley Patch.

We stopped in to the new Country Corner Market at the intersection of East Valley Brook Road and Rt. 517, formerly the home of Carl Burd’s farm stand. The Ort family decided to expand to this location after Carl retired last year, and feel they can reach a new portion of customers looking for a more convenient location.

In the ongoing saga that is the potential restructuring of the West Morris Regional High School District, we learned this week that Mendham Township has yet to allocate $10,000 to a potential feasibility study being sought by an exploratory committee. The township, unlike Washington Township, Mendham Borough and the Chesters, is seeking to split costs with local school districts. .

As the June 5 Primary election approaches, Long Valley Patch gave readers a quick background on the two Washington Township Committee members running for re-election. Mayor Ken Short and Vice Mayor Bill Roehrich are both unopposed in the election, and will be on the November general election ballot. . Three students from the will get to put their money where their mouth is in the coming months, as they were awarded $100 by the Long Valley Junior Women’s Club. How did they get the greenbacks? By writing essays on what they would do to help other if they were given $100. . Great job, kids!

Readers weighed in heavily on this week’s What Should Go Here column, when we asked what should be done, if anything, to the River Building at the corner of Schooley’s Mountain and East Mill Roads. The stone structure is nearly 150 years old, and has been vacant for a long time. ?
