Week in Review: Kids, Questions Top Headlines

We asked, and you answered this week. Patch’s Readers’ Choice category surveyed residents in Washington Township, the Chesters and Mendhams and asked where they think the best day care center is. After 100 hours of voting and nearly 300 tallies, a clear winner came out on top.

The Washington Township Green Team and Recreation Departments have been batting around the idea of starting a community garden, and we asked readers what they thought of the idea, and if they’d use it.

Long Valley Patch introduced a weekly column titled “What Should Go Here?” where each week we’ll post a photo and some brief background about a parcel of land currently unused in town. We want to know what you’d like to see go there. To check out the ideas behind this week’s Spartan Mart location,

Long Valley has great kids; we at Patch know that. It’s one of the reasons our job is so rewarding. But this week opened our eyes to some of our younger residents doing amazing things. Mike Rossi, a member of the U.S. Ski Freestyle Aerial Team, was invited to represent America in the Junior Worlds competition in Italy this month. .

Kaitlin Cheung, a fifth-grader, out-spelled the competition in a regional bee last weekend, and earned a spot in the state spelling bee, where she’ll match wits with 17 other competitors. .

The eighth grade Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) team from Church decided to forego their trophies this year, and did something really cool with the funds. The team donated the money normally used for the hardware to the Washington Township Food Pantry.

As the week came to a close, we highlighted the upcoming off, off Broadway show “My Fair Lady” to be performed by high school students at West Morris Central. More than 100 students in the four grades make up the cast, crew and orchestra for the show, which will begin March 15.
