Week in Review: Long Valley Kicked Into High Gear

From burglaries to road repairs, it was a busy week.

This week we said goodbye to June and hello to July, and we couldn’t have asked for better weather. As we roll into the season of day trips and weeklong vacations, we can’t forget the news going on around us. As always, here’s a quick rundown of what happened in Long Valley this week, but for a more extensive source of news, go here.

Monday kicked off (yes, the pun is intended) with a great photo gallery from the Highlands Cup soccer tournament, which took place at numerous fields throughout Washington Township. Players ages eight through 16 took part in the weekend-long event.

Also on Monday, we learned of a suspected burglary taking place on Bartley Road just after noon. , as was the Washington Township Police Department, Morris County Sheriff’s Department and numerous other local law enforcement agencies. On Tuesday, it was made public that a woman was injured during an altercation with the suspected burglars, who then fled and are still at large. For more information and how you can help, .

When the 2011-12 school year begins, there will be a new member of the staff at West Morris Central, and that’s head principal Steve Ryan. The former Mountain Lakes assistant principal began his tenure at Central on Friday, July 1, and is excited about joining West Morris and supporting the students and staff in every area. .

Earlier this year Long Valley Patch by the Washington Township Committee that would allocate funds to road repairs in 2011. That money was put to use this week, as Wehrli Road’s milling and paving began on Wednesday. .

On the heels of the historical pension and healthcare reform signed into law this week by Governor Chris Christie, Long Valley Patch learned that when it comes to putting a cap on one-time payouts for public sector employees, Washington Township has been ahead of the curve. To find out more, .
