Week in Review: Officials Talk About Impact

Township's youngsters continue accomplishing amazing feats.

From school boards to budget meetings, Washington Township’s elected officials were busy this week trying to iron out various details for 2012. Of course, there was plenty of other news going on. To check that out, go here.

What was your biggest accomplishment in second grade? For most of us, whatever it was doesn’t compare to what this little Long Valley girl has achieved so far. Tyler Xing has appeared on toy boxes, in commercials and on sitcoms. Did we mention she’s played piano at Carnegie Hall?

The met early this week, and discussed a , including potentially moving its election from April to November and the direction the district will go in regarding a projected decline in enrollment.

Board members shared their thoughts on the bill recently signed , allowing school district the option to move their election from April to November. The group was torn on the issue, citing the involvement of politics and the inability for residents to vote on a budget.

The Washington Township Committee held the first of its budget meetings this week, reviewing the proposals set forth by the . The department has requested four new vehicles this year, as it did last year, but there may be a major obstacle: the model of patrol car the department uses is being discontinued.

Winning a championship in sports is a historic accomplishment. Doing it three years in a row–now that’s incredible. The girls’ soccer team did just that, completing a perfect season en route to its third county title. The team was honored by the board of education this week for its accomplishment. .
