Week in Review: Opinion, Holidays Dominate LV

Central's swim team kicked off season.

The first full week of December has officially come to a close, and it was filled with important news in Washington Township (as usual). For a full offering of what happened this past week, go here.

The week kicked off with a fantastic photo gallery from Patch contributor Karen Fucito of Long Valley’s Holiday Happenings event. Residents were able to send letters to soldiers overseas, create (and vote on) gingerbread houses, and of course light the Christmas Tree in the center of town and welcome Santa to the neighborhood.

Speaking of those gingerbread houses, Long Valley Patch received a gallery of photos from Susan Manning, the event’s coordinator, of all the entries in the competition. .

A big topic of conversation was a geographic map of New Jersey that was altered to describe one man’s view of his home state. Some of Patch’s readers throughout the Garden State found the design to be in good fun, while many others were displeased with the display. , and be sure to let us know your thoughts on the matter.

Mayor Ken Short told Long Valley Patch that responses from JCP&L to questions from Washington Township’s residents would be delayed another week or two. Short sent an additional set of questions to the energy provider on Dec. 2. Responses will be posted on the township website and on Long Valley Patch.

The swim team had its first meet of the season and also competed in the Pope John Invitational last weekend, and Parent’s Association President Shelley Stricker provided us with details of the events. Go here to find out more.

It was announced on Dec. 2 that West Morris Regional High School District Superintendent , 2012. Two former board members, Meg Berlin (representing Mendham Township), and Keith Gregg (representing Mendham Borough) coauthored a letter explaining their thoughts on di Battista’s accomplishments.

Also coming by way of letter was a status report of the progress being made by mayors from Washington Township, Chester Borough, Chester Township, and Mendham Borough. The letter explains how the group of four has joined with the New Jersey Department of Education in figuring out a solution to the regional high school district’s funding problems. .
