Week in Review: See Ya Later, Summer

From milestones to Maria's, it was a busy week.

The week–and summer–has come to a close in Long Valley, and we embark on a new season as we close out 2011. Boy, time flies when you’re not looking at the clock. The week began with a dedication ceremony on Sunday (coverage on the site Monday) for the new Zion Lutheran Church building at the bottom of Schooley’s Mountain. Zion, a landmark in Long Valley, spent seven years planning and constructing the new building, now open for services. Don’t worry, though, the picturesque steeple that stands high above town will remain. .

Long Valley Patch also learned that the Shell Gas Station on Rt. 46 just over the border in Hackettstown was robbed on Sunday, and Hackettstown Police are searching for the suspect. To learn more about the situation, . If you or someone you know has any information, contact the police immediately.

In regional news affecting all of Morris County, the County’s Republican Committee voted to choose a candidate for Morris County Freeholder to run against Democrat Truscha Quatrone of Montville in November. This came after a judge voided the June primary election between Hank Lyon of Montville and Margaret Nordstrom of Washington Township. Haven’t heard the results yet? .

A quarterly roundtable was held this week between the Washington Township Committee and the various committees and commissions throughout town. Long Valley Patch learned the township has spoken with officials from Quick Chek about possibly opening a store on Rt. 46 in the Hackettstown area of the township. The Open Space and Recreation Committees are also working to continue surveying land throughout the township that could host new trails or building. To learn more, .

Finally, as the week wound down, we caught up with Maria Selano of Maria’s Café in Long Valley, which opened this month. Selano, the owner of Maria’s of Chester, started the venture with the hopes of giving locals a place to have a meal that feels like home. To learn more, .
