"Race to Nowhere" Screening - Fundraiser for Church Mission Trip

“Race to Nowhere” To Be Shown in Chester

“Featuring the heartbreaking stories of young people across the country who have been pushed to the brink, educators who are burned out and worried that students aren’t developing the skills they need, and parents who are trying to do what’s best for their kids, Race to Nowhere points to the silent epidemic in our schools: cheating has become commonplace, students have become disengaged, stress-related illness, depression and burnout are rampant, and young people arrive at college and the workplace unprepared and uninspired.

"Race to Nowhere" is a call to mobilize families, educators, and policy makers to challenge current assumptions on how to best prepare the youth of America to become healthy, bright, contributing and leading citizens.” – From the “Race to Nowhere” website.

As a Fundraiser for their annual Mission Trip with Appalachia Service Project (ASP), the Community Presbyterian Church of Chester is sponsoring a showing of the documentary “Race to Nowhere,” on Saturday, May 19th at 6 pm.  This thought-provoking, eye-opening film addresses the issues of “saturation” and “over-scheduling” for our children.  It offers a very revealing picture and opens the door to discussion and change.

Community Presbyterian Church’s “Big Youth Group,” or BYG, has served with ASP for 20 years and this July will travel to Tazewell County, Virginia to help make homes “warmer, safer, and drier.”  A group of 88 of us will be serving families in Appalachia, in what is called a relational ministry, or one that counts the family relations as important (if not more so), than the repairs made to homes.

As part of our fundraising efforts (we raise almost $50,000 for our Group), we will be hosting a screening of “Race to Nowhere” at the Community Presbyterian Church at 220 Main Street in Chester.  It will take place on Saturday, May 19th at 6 pm and tickets are $10 per person.  To order tickets, please visit the website www.racetonowhere.com.  Click on the “Screenings” tab and then follow the locations to our purchase page.

For more information about the BYG, you can visit our information page at www.cpcchester.org.  You can also check out our Blue Grass Festival page (another Big Fundraiser for us!) at www.FrontPorchBluegrassFestival.com.  For more information about ASP, please visit www.ASPhome.org.
