Founding Member of First Aid Squad, Church Dies at 85

Henry Steinmetz also founded Long Valley's Boy Scout Troop 436.

The 85-year-old died on Oct. 30 at the House of Good Shepherd. The German-born, decades-long Long Valley resident was a founding member of the Long Valley First Aid Squad, according to his obituary, and was also a founding member of Our Lady of the Mountain Roman Catholic Church along with being a trustee.

Adding to his love for the outdoors, fishing, and woodworking, Steinmetz was the founding member of Boy Scout Troop 436, his obituary said.

Steinmetz is survived by a son and two daughters, seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Memorial donations in Steinmetz’s name can be made to the Long Valley First Aid Squad, P.O. Box 111, Long Valley, NJ 07853.
