Long Valley Native Laid to Rest by Family, Community

Joshua Adickes honored by police officers, Long Valley at Tuesday funeral.

More than a week after the two-seater plane he and colleague were flying in crashed into the Atlantic Ocean, Long Valley native and Ocean City, Md., police officer Joshua Adickes was laid to rest Tuesday.

Held at Highlands Presbyterian Church on Schooley’s Mountain, the religious institution where Adickes and his extended family called their place of worship for so many years, hundreds of community members attended the service, including a full bagpipe display and saluting officers from Ocean City and Washington Township.

Adickes’ casket was cloaked in the American Flag, and presented to the church by officers as shown in a video at dailyrecord.com.

"Josh was the kind of kid that would do anything you asked and never said a word or complained about it," West Morris Central assistant wrestling coach Jim Balella told Patch. "He was the type of student and teammate you wanted the other kids to be like. He was a positive kid always helping others."

Adickes’ viewing was held on Monday at Cochrane Funeral Home in Hackettstown.

“Josh always had the biggest smile on his face and made everyone around him happy. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten,” said Hunter Campbell on Adickes’ obituary page for Cochrane Funeral Home.

“Josh was not only an outstanding police officer, but an amazing person as well,” said Joshua Ward, a fellow Ocean City police officer commenting on the funeral home’s website. “I always looked forward to riding with Josh because we never stopped laughing all night, whether it was about something that happened on a call or the "rock n roll keyboard" josh always made a long night better.”
