Retired Long Valley Middle School Teacher Dies at 62

Andrew Damiter taught in Washington Township for 40 years.

One of Long Valley Middle School’s longest tenured educators has died at the age of 62.

Andrew Damiter, of Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania, passed away Tuesday at the Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg, according to his obituary.

Damiter is survived by his wife of 30 years, Anita, two daughters, two sons, and five grandchildren.

The social studies teacher spent 40 years at Long Valley Middle School, having retired this past school year. Damiter was an avid musician, playing keyboard in several bands, was a big fan of Disney World and a diehard Phillies fan.

“The Washington Township Schools is deeply saddened having learned today of the sudden passing of Mr. Andy Damiter, master Social Studies teacher at Long Valley Middle School,” said schools superintendent Jeff Mohre in a statement. “Our hearts and prayers go out to Andy and his family as we say a tearful farewell to an individual who dedicated his life to helping children learn and grow. Always a gentleman, forever a teacher, Andy was one of our professions brightest stars. A candle has gone out and we are all deeply saddened.”

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 19 at the Kresge Funeral Home on Route 209 in Brodheadsville in Pennsylvania, preceded by a visitation starting at 10 a.m. Memorial donations can be made to St. Mark’s Community Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 146, Reeders, Pa., 18352.
