I am no theater expert but I’d like to think that I know a good performance when I see one.  That is the case with Evita which is being showcased at West Morris Central High School this week.

There are all sorts of things happening throughout the performance, which lasts nearly 2 hours.  There are singing, lots of, dancing, lots of – even a couple of random tango numbers, military marching, yes marching too, non-stop music (this is a musical, after all) and anything else to tell the life of Evita Peron.  She once was the First Lady of Argentina, hence the tango bit.  Some violence is also thrown into the mix for titillating effects but it is all implied via sound effects, e.g., gun shot, stabbing, slapping, etc. or via theatrical magic, e.g., pulling of the red scarf from the body of the victim – nothing gruesome is the bottom line.

This PG-rated production is suited for most age groups.  It is a much better form of entertainment than watching a movie.  So families, college students home for spring break, anyone out on a date looking for something to do, teenagers looking to avoid their parents, or parents needing an excuse to be away from their kids, should seriously consider stopping by WMC this afternoon or early evening.

The pictures posted here are a mere preview of the show.  At times, I was so mesmerized by the performance, I completely forgot to take pictures of some key scenes such as ….

Oops sorry, I just realized I am not supposed to give the plot away.
