WMC Boys Soccer - Morris County Tournament Update

Sunday before last, WMC was eliminated from the 2013 Morris County Boys Soccer tournament.  The Wolfpacks seeded #14 went up against the #3 seed Mountain Lakes HS (MLHS) and lost.  And that was how the result was reported.

But what was not reported was how amazing the Wolfpacks played that game.  The team behaved more like an overdog over MLHS, flexing its dominance every which way possible over the much higher seeded team throughout the second half and the latter part of the game.  Granted that MLHS scored first toward the end of the first period, the Wolfpacks tied the game at 1-1 in the second period.  And the game remained tied at the end of regulation time.

Throughout the second period and the ensuing two overtime periods, the Wolfpacks was simply the dominant team.  The offense was relentless in mounting attacks after attacks.  Much credit went to MLHS goal keeper who managed to catch, block and punch the ball, preventing the Wolfpacks from scoring.  Not helping matters were controversial calls against WMC – some that may actually strip the Wolfpacks of two more goals in the second period.  But until instant replay is instituted, one must abide by the referee’s decision.  So in the end, the game was decided by penalty kicks and MLHS came away winner.

Overall, despite the tough loss, the Wolfpacks did exceptionally well!  This game shows that the Wolfpacks can compete at a very high level and have the confidence to overcome major obstacles.
