130 Motorists Chose 'Ticket' Over 'Click It'

12-day seat belt violation crackdown yields a total of 236 tickets in Washington Township.

Washington Township Police issued a total of 130 summonses for drivers or passengers not wearing their seatbelts during a nationwide 12-day campaign, according to Lt. Doug Compton.

The results are slightly higher than the Click It or Ticket effort in 2012, when Washington Township handed out 115 seatbelt summonses.

A total of 236 tickets were issued altogether, including:

  • 3 speeding violations
  • 5 Driving While Suspended
  • 2 Reckless Driving
  • 2 Driving While Intoxicated
  • 1 Uninsured Driver
  • 93 other non-moving violations

Five arrests were made as well, including:

  • 2 Controlled Dangerous Substance arrests
  • 2 Driving While Intoxicated arrests
  • 2 Warrant arrests

In 2011, 323 total tickets were issued were issued in Washington Township during the initiative.

Township police were issued a grant of $4,000 for 80 additional patrol hours over the 12-day period, Compton said.
