Cops: Crossing Guard Hit By Car While On Duty
The following information was released by the Hackettstown Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.
An 88-year-old Hackettstown crossing guard was struck by a car at the intersection of Rt. 517 and Cook Street earlier this week, according to Hackettstown Police.
Olga Gannett was working her usual route Monday morning when Bernard Ahrens IV of Hawley, Pennsylvania struck the crossing guard, Det. Darren Tynan said.
Interestingly enough, the incident took place on Cook Street, also known as Olga Gannett Way, which was titled in her honor for years of service to the community, Tynan said.

Fortunately there were no children involved or in the cross walk at the time Gannett was struck, Tynan said.
Gannett was transported to Morristown Medical Center by the Hackettstown Rescue Squad and St. Clare’s Medical Unit, Tynan said. The area between Franklin and Miller Streets was closed for about three hours to investigate the incident, Tynan said.

Gannett is in fair condition but is still at the hospital, according to Morristown Medical Center.
At this time there is no evidence of Ahrens having been under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Tynan said.
