Cops: Man Drove Drunk, Had Drug Paraphernalia

The following information was provided by the Hackettstown Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Washington Township man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after speeding through the Quick Chck parking lot in Hackettstown, according to Hackettstown Police Det. Darren Tynan.

James Appis, 39, was stopped by Hackettstown police after he was seen traveling through the convenience store’s parking lot at a high rate of speed, Tynan said.

Once the officer initiated the stop, he smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage in the vehicle, Tynan said.

Appis was transported to police headquarters where he was then charged with driving while intoxicated after failing the Alcotest, Tynan said. He was also charged with careless driving and possession of drug paraphernalia.
