DPW Chief: Storm Went As Expected, Plows Stayed True To Form

Washington Twp. Police say no major incidents have occurred as a result of the snow.

Long Valley endured another overnight from Tuesday, Jan. 11 into the morning hours of Wednesday, Jan. 12.

All road cleaning procedures and the storm itself stayed true to form . "The first crew came in around 8:30 p.m. (Tuesday night), and the second (crew) came in with me around 3:30 a.m.," Frech said. Road clearing in Washington Township was ongoing as of 9 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The majority of the snowfall came after midnight, Frech said, and accumulations totaled approximately eight to nine inches on the roads he plowed. "It's been easy to move-it's pretty fluffy stuff," he said. "We may have a bit of a drifting issue tonight, but for now we're doing fine. We've been in the subdivisions for about 2-3 hours already (as of 9 a.m.), which are the last areas to get cleaned out."

Lt. Mark Niemynski of the said no down trees, power lines or other major damage had been reported since the storm began.

"I think the schools being closed last night along with some corporations and things–that kept drivers off the roads this morning, which was a huge help," Niemynski said.

Aside from a few disabled vehicles that needed minimal assistance, the Washington Township Police Department hasn't needed to respond to any critical calls.

Niemynski, located at the department's headquarters atop Schooley's Mountain, said it was hard to tell how much snow accumulated overnight.

"There's a lot of drifting up here," Niemynski said. "In some spots over at , it looks like feet of snow, and some spots I can still see grass in areas. Between some cars, though, where it's more sheltered, it looks like about eight or nine inches."
