Cops: Suspicious Car Report Leads to Pot Bust

The following information was provided by the Washington Township Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Hackettstown man and his Long Valley passenger were arrested and charged with drug possession after police received a report of a suspicious vehicle parked on a residential road, Lt. Doug Compton said.

Patrol Officer Robert Brobst responded to the area of Ascot Drive and Ramsey Way in regard to the report, Compton said. While driving down Ramsey Way, the vehicle in question passed Brobst, and began speeding toward Pleasant Grove Road, Compton said.

Brobst reversed course and was able to catch up to the vehicle, stopping it on Pleasant Grove Road, Compton said. Upon speaking with the driver, Kurt Harrison, 19, of Hackettstown, Brobst smelled the odor of burnt marijuana, Compton said.

Brobst and assisting officer Cpl. Brian Bigham found marijuana on the passenger, Shikhar Mishra, 19, of Long Valley, who attempted to hide the drugs and a glass pipe in his shoe, Compton said.

This is the second time since March Mishra has been charged by Washington Township police with possession of marijuana. .

Harrison was also found to be under the influence of marijuana while driving, Compton said.

Mishra was charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia. Harrison was charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams, possession of drug paraphernalia, under the influence of marijuana, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and possession of CDS in a motor vehicle.
