Cops: Teen Tried Swiping $1,000 Worth of DVDs

Belvidere resident eludes Washington Township police before being arrested in Mount Olive.

Bryan Paes, 19, of Belvidere shoplifted more than two dozen DVDs from the Target store in Hackettstown, according to police.

On Sept. 29, Paes was approached by Loss Prevention personnel at the store when it was believed he was shoplifting. Paes ran to the back of the store and exited through the receiving doors, leaving behind numerous DVDs, police said.

Washington Township police officer John Wurtemberg responded to the call and in conjunction with the Mount Olive Township and Hackettstown police departments searched the wooded area behind the store.

Washington Township police officer Michael Hade and Patrol Officer Carl Mase of the Mount Olive police department found Paes in Mount Olive Township near a grove, according to police.

Paes was then charged with third-degree shoplifting and fourth-degree shoplifting of 26 DVDs worth $1,033.97. Paes was also charged with eluding police and the possession of a hypodermic syringe.

Paes was transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility and lodged on $10,000 bail.
