Cops: Vehicle Stop Leads to Warrant Arrest

The following arrest information was supplied by the Washington Township Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Two Newark residents were arrested on outstanding warrants after being pulled over on Route 46, Washington Township Police Lt. Mark Niemynski said.

Abdul Ahmad, 35, and his wife Shakeerah Ahmad, 31, were driving with their two sons when their vehicle was stopped by Patrol Officer Michael Thompson, because Abdul Ahmad had a suspended license, Niemynski said.

Thompson learned that Abdul Ahmad had a contempt of court charge for a probation violation from Essex County as well as two other $500 traffic warrants, Niemynski said.

Shakeerah Ahmad was found to have a $2,500 traffic warrant out of Newark and a $200 traffic warrant out of Kearny, Niemynski said. Both were arrested and their vehicle was turned over to their sons, Niemynski said.

Abdul Ahmad was brought to the Morris County Correctional facility and was retrieved by Essex County law enforcement, Niemynski said. Shakeerah Ahmad posted her $200 bail for Kearny and was released on her own recognizance by the Newark Municipal Court with a pending court date, Niemynski said.
