Cops: Woman Forged $2,750 in Checks

Accused of theft by deception from Tri-Co.

say a Budd Lake woman stole $2,750 from Tri-Co Federal Credit Union by depositing fradulent checks. She was arrested Wednesday after an investigation that began in April.

Christine J. Abbott, 35, was taken into custody at 12:45 Wednesday by Detective Cpl. Lucas Allen, as Allen followde up on a case first reported to Patrol Officer Roger Garrison on April 20, police said.

Garrison was told that Abbott had deposited three checks at the credit union at 68 Rt 46, then later withdrew the money at different branches, police said. Allen’s investigation found Abbott had fraudulently produced the checks and forged the signature of another person, police said.

Abbott was charged with forgery, criminal simulation and theft by deception. She was processed at police headquarters and later released pending a court date, police said.
