Dapper Bandit Arrested For Multiple Bank Robberies, Prosecutor Says

A Warren man has been arrested for a series of four bank robberies and one attempted robbery that took place at Morris County banks over the span of a little more than one month. 

David G. Carroccia, 28, of Warren, robbed banks in Parsippany, Lincoln Park, Mount Olive, and attempted to rob a Kinnelon bank, according to Morris County Prosecutor Robert Bianchi. Carroccia was arrested while driving a vehicle in his hometown on Thursday at about 2 p.m., Bianchi said.

Bianchi said that Carroccia is also a suspect in additional bank robberies that are separate from the ones he is currently charged with.

Carroccia is charged with four counts of robbery, a second-degree crime carrying a potential sentence of five to 10 years, with Bianchi saying Carroccia put the employees of the banks robbed in fear of immediate bodily harm in each incident. He is also charged with one count of attempted robbery, a third-degree crime carrying a potential sentence of three to five years in prison.

Bianchi said the arrest comes after a nearly three-month, multi-agency undercover bank robbery task force investigation.

The first robbery Carroccia is accused of committing occured at an Indus American Bank in Parsippany on July 20. In that incident, the man who robbed the bank wore a pinstriped suit, dress shirt, tie and hat, Bianchi said. The person involved in the other incidents was similarly well-dressed, according to previous reports by Bianchi. The person was also allegedly not in possession of a weapon during the incidents.

The second robbery Carroccia is accused of committing occured at a PNC Bank in Mount Olive on July 30. The third took place at a Capital One Bank in Lincoln Park on Aug. 10, with a fourth also taking place in Lincoln Park on Aug. 23 at a Boiling Springs Savings Bank.

Carroccia also allegedly attempted to rob a PNC Bank in Kinnelon on Aug. 28.

“I am extremely proud of the work of the Morris County Prosecutor's Office assistant prosecutors, detectives, investigative and legal support staff, as well as our local police officers and agencies outside Morris County who jointly worked on this task force," Bianchi said. "Everyone worked cooperatively to pursue this alleged offender."

Bail for Carroccia was set at $500,000 with no 10-percent option. He was placed in the Morris County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail, Bianchi said.
